Green Heart Community Initiatives

Green Heart Community Initiatives help individuals, businesses and faith organizations work together to become more sustainable within their communities. Our programs help people understand where they are and then inspire them to take actions that reduce their environmental impact and save money. The results are measurable reductions in carbon emissions and an improved quality of life for all.

The Initiative is a 12 month program designed to help people through a process of change that meets them where they are and helps them get where they want to go. It starts with a group training about the environment and sustainability and sets the stage for community colaboration. The next step is a "Green Heart Check-up"  provided by a trained staff or volunteer Sustainability Mentor. GHI trains local neighborhood volunteers to become sustainability educators and consultants. The volunteer mentors provide in-home Green Heart Check-ups for their neighbors in order to analyze how their lifestyle is using energy, where they are spending money, and what their carbon footprint is. Based on the results of their reports, specific next steps are suggested.

Every home or business is also automatically enrolled in a mentorship and tracking program for twelve months. Participants receive a monthly newsletter with additional tips and ideas about sustainability and they also submit their current energy usage online each month so that they can track their improvements as they make changes. The total results are posted on a customized regional website where members of the community can monitor the groups' progress.

Monthly education events for all residents are organized which address such topics as alternative transportation, permaculture, renewable energy, voluntary simplicity, and more. We try to seek out local experts to help facilitate these classes and develop partnerships with the schools, town administration, businesses, and community organizations in the area to increase the effectiveness of the program and build a sustainable future for residents.

Our programs are measuring and tracking the individuals, communities, counties, State and then total program carbon savings. We have started our programs in Colorado, Boulder County, Lyons, and a neighborhood in Boulder.
